What are you scared to tell people?

Each time I’ve written a book, I’ve had to solidly stand my ground in the truth of the words I’ve written

When I wrote You Are Enough, I had to relive times I felt unworthy, deepen my sense of worth, my confidence, and my personal power, and more fully back myself and believe in myself.

When I wrote It’s All GoodI had to surrender to where I was, trust in myself and my path in life, and allow myself to feel buoyed up by the universe through difficult situations in my business and life.

I had to trust in myself, and in my words. I had to let myself be seen, flaws and mistakes and imperfections and all.

There is a part within all of us that’s scared to be seen, scared that people will think we’re a fraud, or that they’ll see the cracks we’ve been trying to cover over.

Time and time again however, I find that when I share those parts of myself, I don’t break, or shatter, or crumble.

I become stronger, because as we say so often in yoga classes: Namaste, meaning, the light in me sees and honours the light in you.

When I share something that feels like it might break me, the light in you sees and honours the light in me. And when you, as part of my business community, share something with me, the light in me sees and honours the light in you too.

We each hold within us a world of contradictions; the truth that we are enough, and the reality that sometimes we have to remind ourselves of that; the truth that we’re beautiful as we are, and the reality that sometimes we have to remind ourselves of that too; the truth that we’re already living our dreams of dreams past, and the reality that we’re also already dreaming new ones; the truth that we’re on the right path, and the reality that there are some days when knowing this requires more trust, more confidence.

If you know there’s a part of yourself that is scared to be seen, or a part you’re scared to share, this doesn’t make you breakable; it makes you stronger.

Seeing your imperfections doesn’t magnify them; it clarifies your next steps, because once you become aware of where you’re scared to be seen, of where you’re scared to be real, of where you’re scared to be imperfect, through your awareness you can accept/heal/support/clear/share/empower this part of yourself.

Through self-compassion, and with self-awareness, you can see the truth that has been asking you to make space for it; that you are enough, that being imperfect is perfect, and that it’s all good, everything will be okay.

If you’re feeling scared to be seen, make some time to journal/write about/brainstorm your responses to the following questions:

  • What are you scared to tell or show other people?
  • What do you think they’ll think about you? Can you accept that a) this is your perception of their perception of you and b) that if you’re feeling/thinking/experiencing something, someone else has felt/thought/experienced that too?
  • What are you scared to admit to yourself?
  • What’s the worst thing that could happen if you were honest with yourself or others?
  • What’s the best thing that could happen if you were honest with yourself or others?
  • Are you making things worse in your head, or dramatising a certain situation?
  • Are you being too hard on yourself about certain situations/thoughts?
  • What would evolve/transform/emerge if you trusted yourself and your path in life?
  • What would shift/soften/clear if you stood more solidly in your self-worth?
  • What can you do today, to infuse self-love and compassion into your thoughts/being/energy?

I hope this helps.

Love,
